Hypercars offer superb driving performance, whether they are careening around a racetrack or purring through suburbia. We explore a selection of the world’s most powerful, sleek, and chic models.

1. Aston Martin Valkyrie ($3.2 Million)

With an emissions-legal 6.5-liter Cosworth V-12 engine, the Valkyrie is the product of an unlikely partnership forged between Aston Martin and Red Bull Racing. The collaboration culminated in the creation of a road-going hypercar that performs on the racetrack like no other vehicle before it.

After releasing just 100 or so models on general sale, Aston Martin produced a further 25 track-only specimens, boasting blistering Le Mans-standard performance. Bridging the gap between petroleum-driven cars and their greener, electrified contemporaries, the Aston Martin Valkyrie incorporates a gasoline powerplant as well as an electronification system, providing an exponential increase in power.

With torque on demand and 1,130 horsepower, the Aston Martin Valkyrie can go from 0 to 96 km/h in a jaw-dropping 2.5 seconds. Assembled from lightweight materials, the Valkyrie’s sleek aerodynamics culminate in a distinctive profile, its mighty engine forming an integral part of the vehicle’s structure.

2. McLaren Speedtail ($3 Million)

Billed by McLaren as a fusion of art and science in automotive form, the Speedtail is one of the automotive manufacturer’s first ever Hyper-GT cars. Incorporating McLaren’s most aerodynamically efficient chassis design to date, the Speedtail is McLaren’s fastest car.

With a pioneering 1070PS hybrid powertrain at its heart, the McLaren Speedtail combines elegance with state-of-the-art innovation, setting a new standard in automotive design. Incorporating electrochromic glass, the McLaren Speedtail eliminates the need for sun visors, sparing the driver’s eyes from glare.

With more than 1,000 horsepower and a top speed in excess of 400 km/h, the McLaren Speedtail is one of the world’s most sought-after hypercars. Speedtail production is extremely limited, with just 100 units released on general sale globally.

3. Bugatti Chiron ($2.8 Million)

A contemporary of the legendary Veyron, the Bugatti Chiron draws on its predecessor’s exemplary performance and Bugatti’s exceptional pedigree, culminating in a stunningly capable machine.

A wonder of modern engineering, the car’s 16-cylinder engine is capable of propelling the vehicle to speeds north of 420 km/h. In fact, this top speed is limited by Bugatti, since the manufacturer deduced that no tire currently on the market could handle the stress produced by the Chiron’s true top speed.

Creating a 1,500-horsepower vehicle with all the functionality of a race car leaves little room left for infotainment. The sound system, however, delivers impeccable sound quality. The Chiron’s cabin is dressed in top-spec materials, incorporating space-age styling elements, while still prioritizing functionality and performance.

4. Mercedes-AMG Project ONE ($2.6 Million)

With 275 units released on sale globally, this 8-speed transmission hypercar incorporates a carbon ceramic braking system, as well as four electric motors.

Manufactured in Brackley and Brixworth in the UK, and Affalterbach, Germany, the Project ONE brings the supreme technology of a Formua 1 car to the streets, utilizing innovative, efficient Formula 1 hybrid technology to produce more than 1,000 horsepower, and a top speed of over 350 km/h.

With exemplary efficiency, the Project ONE not only bears testament to the brand’s success in motorsports, but is touted by Mercedes as the “Future of Driving Performance.” The car’s consistent design follows a simple principle: every single component must add benefit in terms of the overall performance of the vehicle.

Based on a mid-engine concept, the Project ONE’s muscular proportions, wasp waist, large wheel arches, and extensive tail are all clear pointers to the vehicle’s motorsports origins. Comprising two sculptured racing seats upholstered in magma grey nappa leather, the interior follows a minimalistic, futuristic design, including an adjustable Formula 1-style steering wheel and monocoque architecture.

5. Koenigsegg Regera ($2 Million)

With just 80 units released on general sale worldwide, the Koenigsegg Regera was used to establish a new world record in September 2019, when the hypercar accelerated from 0 to 400 km/h and back to 0 again in just 31.49 seconds.

Specifically designed as a luxury alternative, the Koenigsegg’s traditional race-style road cars, the Regera is powered by a twin-turbo V8 engine, incorporating three electric motors. Although Koenigsegg retains a focus on building the fastest cars on earth, the Regera combines Koenigsegg’s trademark practicality and performance with supreme comfort and innovative features, culminating in the ultimate driving experience.

In Swedish, “Regera” means “to reign,” an apt description of a machine offering the ultimate combination of responsiveness, power, and luxury. The fastest-accelerating car on the planet, the Koenigsegg Regera does not skimp on creature comforts, incorporating a 9-inch infotainment system, eight-way adjustable memory foam seats, Apple CarPlay, ambient lighting, and a supreme sound system. The car also benefits from rear and inner cameras with a recording function, as well as front and rear parking sensors.
